Our society is in need of new, resource-efficient materials in areas such as textiles, packaging and the construction sector. Green biorefineries include the processing of forage crops (grass and clover) into high-quality protein feed, where the by-products can be used as bioenergy and biomaterials. The crops are separated into protein-, sugar- and fiber-rich fractions. The fiber-rich part is called press cake and it has the potential to be developed into many kinds of commercial materials.
